LILLOOET ICE CLIMBING CONDITIONS

Current conditions at Lillooet are on our website . The information is sent by a climber who lives in Lillooet, as well as any other climbers who report. There are links to other sites (e.g. weather forecast), and an address for anyone to send in information on climbing, ice, and weather conditions around B.C. Ice climbing is dangerous, and can kill or seriously injure you. Weather and ice conditions change rapidly. Neither CASBC nor any of the contributors to the webpage warrants that this information is current, complete, or accurate, and you rely on it at your own risk.

TYEE POINT (TELEGRAPH HILL)
This is the treed, rocky knoll on the west side of Horseshoe Bay. It is owned by B.C. Telephone, and features a microwave repeater. The hilltop area is used as an informal park by residents. In 1998 about a dozen climbs were created at sea level on the northwest side of the Tyee Point. They are reached via Copper Point, although there is a parking problem. Access is at low tide; at high tide, you have to like wet fifth class traverses, exposed to wind and waves – or swimming! B.C. Tel is planning to subdivide and develop the hilltop. It seems unlikely that this would affect the climbing, which is well below. The issue was discussed at a public West Vancouver council meeting on 14th December. No one from CASBC could attend, so we don’t know what happened.

NANAIMO

There will be a work-bee at the Nanaimo River climbing area this spring. It is a bit of a dump – wrecked cars, junk etc. – and local climbers are planning a clean up. B.C. Hydro and ICBC will put in a gate, barriers, and a paved parking lot. Work continues on a new loose-leaf guide for the east Island [Duncan (Genoa Bay) - Horne Lake]. It should be available at local gyms and retailers in late spring, for a $12 photocopying charge. Call Greg Sorensen for details: (250) 751-7625.
