Ice Climbing Climb a frozen waterfall in Rjukan is an extraordinary experience.
In recent years Rjukan has become the favorite destination in Northern Europe for ice climbers from around the world.
Season
Ice can be scaled in the Rjukan area from late October to early April. However, the best time (and more reliable) is mid-January to mid-March. The days are longer and when the ice is abundant.
Other locations are suitable for ice climbing, such as the waterfall Hydnefossen in Hemsedal and waterfalls around Lærdal toward the bottom of the Sognefjord.
For climbers confirmed
But ice climbing is an activity reserved for very experienced climbers. If you want to learn or participate in organized ice climbing, you can contact the Norwegian Alpine Club (TSD).
The Norwegian Climbing Federation can give you more information about ice climbing in Norway. It is intended primarily for Norwegian members, but willingly give information to non-members
